Comics Rant: Batman #457

Batman #457
Written By Alan Grant
Pencils By Norm Breyfogle
Inks By Steve Mitchell
Colors By Adrienne Roy

We come full circle here, folks. Batman #457 takes us to the final part of Tim Drake becoming the Third Robin. Oh, don’t act like you didn’t know where this was going. This story is almost twenty years old, so you can’t say that this is a spoiler. So to pick up from last issue Batman and Vicky Vale are held by Scarecrow and both are being exposed to his new fear gas. Vicky Vale totally can’t cope and breaks down crying about her poor dog. Batman tries to hold his breathe but in a cool spot, Scarecrow punches Batman in the stomach and forces him to breathe the gas in. Bats automatically starts going back to when his parents were killed.

Tash's Pick of the Week; Silver Surfer #7

Tash’s Pick of the Week: Silver Surfer #7
Story & Plot By Dan Slott and Michael Allred
Drawn By Michael Allred
Colors By Laura Allred

Hey, would you look at that. Dan Slott does non Spider-Man stuff. And you know what? It’s some awesome stuff. I’ve read lots of Silver Surfer stories from the Silver Age up until today and this has been pretty much a different take on ol’ Norrin Radd. (Awesome real name buy the way.) Normally we’d get some story where the Silver Surfer is flying around the space ways and he’d be doing one of two things.
He’d be brooding about his lost love, Shalla Bal. If not that, he’d be brooding about the how’s and why’s of the universe. So yeah, this dude broods. A lot. But in comes Dan Slott and Mike Allred.

Goodbye bitchy Surfer and in comes fish out of water Surfer. And hey, he’s got a female companion that seems just as quirky as him in Dawn Greenwood. For those who don’t know, Dawn was kidnapped by some Aliens (Not THOSE Aliens) and the Silver Surfer saved her. So now they are together and hitting it off pretty well. Not to mention in this issue having some crazy adventures. For instance, Dawn and the Silver Surfer get captured by Space Hillbillies, (Yeah, you read that right.) They try to force Dawn to marry the lead Hillbilly in what was and I am not kidding here an “Atomic Shotgun Wedding.”  Thankfully, Silver Surfer breaks this up and gets Dawn Away.

Movie Review: Interstellar

directed by: Christopher Nolan
starring: Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, John Lithgow, Michael Caine, Jessica Chastain, and more.

Truthfully, I hadn't been that excited about this movie's release. I thought it looked okay from the previews, but from them alone I don't think I got a full picture of what this movie was about. In the end that was okay because I saw the film anyway, as you can tell since I'm writing this review, and I really enjoyed it.

I'll try to keep the spoilers to a minimum.

Comics Rant: Walking Dead #134

Written by: Robert Kirkman
Art by: Charlie Adlard

Jesus is cornered by walkers that speak. Walkers with weapons. Walkers who aren't...really walkers. They're humans who have killed walkers and are now wearing their skins. That's totally normal, right? You mean you guys don't do that kind of thing? Oh...whoops. Guess I've gotta make some calls and cancel some Amazon orders. Anywho, Jesus is cornered and the best way to go out is in style, and by style I mean slicing some dudes with a katana. Halfway through the fight, he hears his fallen teammate Darius cry for help. Holy hell, he's still alive?! After killing every single last walker, alive or dead, Jesus finally comes up to Darius to make sure he's okay. Meanwhile back at The Hilltop, Carl and Sophia are having what looks to be like a date. Carl's getting some in both towns. He's clapping cheeks!!! Their picnic gets cut short when some bullies from a couple issues ago smack Carl with a brick in the back of the head. To everyone's surprise, he gets up and runs away, leaving Sophia to fend for herself. That's not a problem at all for her, as she's able to hold her own against these punks. Its not long before Carl makes his return to deal with this problem, but he deals with it with a shovel.

This issue opens up at the ass crack of dawn. Carl is just waking up on his second day at his new apprenticeship at the Hilltop. He wakes up and finally reads that love note that Anna sent him with. Its all cute and stuff, but the perfect example of "You missed your chance, chick.". Meanwhile, Andrea is going over well with the new people. Giving them all the honest answers to all the questions they've been asking. About Carl and his face wound, about Negan about everything. Things aren't too much better for Eugene though. He and his girlfriend, Rosita have hit a rough patch. Simply put, she don't love his ass. She cheated and now she's pregnant. He's willing to raise it as his own as long as she can love him. Man this is starting to look like its going to become an episode of Maury. Except there is no Maury in this word =/. Well I'm sure Maury Povich is alive somewhere, but his show sure ain't!

Olivia's Pick of the Week: Chew #44

Chew #44
written by John Layman
art by Rob Guillory

It's my turn for Pick of the Week and this week I've selected Chew #44 as the best book to read. You got a sense of what was going to happen in this issue from the ending in the last issue, but that was just the tiniest hint really. This comic has many great moments in it that make following the main plot so much more fun. For instance: the squirrel.

What a cute character!!!!! That little guy was so cute. His appearance was so short too, which was so sad. But good, too.

Oh boy, what a tangled web we…wait that’s for if I’m writing a rant for Spider-Man. You should all know by now that this is a Batman rant. And it’s presented to you by one of my favorite Batman creative teams. Hey, I even did a list and they were on there. Number six, if I’m not mistaken. You can even go ahead and check out the list right over here

Okay, with that aside we can get to this rant. Batman is still on the streets trying to figure out just what could make seemingly normal people just lash out and commit crimes. Must be something in the water. Batman stops some jerk-ass dressed as Santa attacking people in a mall. Batman breaks this guy's ribs then goes to drop him off with Lt. Kitch. Batman learns that Vicky Vale had a lead at to what’s going down with the random crimes and goes to look into it. I always get just a feeling that the GCPD are lazy bums. They get a great lead from Vicky Vale, but don’t follow up on it “'cause she's a woman.” Okay he didn’t say that. Not out loud anyway.

Batman is sharp as a whip, so he goes to investigate. Bat follows Vicky, who is following a lead from a picture she took from doing that whole interview with the Hobo’s in Batman #455. Don’t believe me, just go and read that rant. (Shameless plug.) So Vale gets picked up by some goons, cuz she’s meant to be captured. It’s all she knows. Just as Batman hits the streets he sees Vale being taken away. But instead of trying to stop the goons from taking her away, he just decides to follow them. Plus did you know the Batmobile has a silent feature? Yup, Batman had a bunch of Illegial’s to pimp his ride. True story.

Tim Drake (Still my favorite Robin.) sits in

Comics Rant: Fantastic Four #195

Fantastic Four #195
Written By Marv Wolfman
Pencils By Keith Pollard
Inks By P. Marcos
Colors By P.Rache

We are off to the races with this newest rant of the Bronze Age Fantastic Four. This takes us to the golden coast of California. To Hollywood,to be exact. Susan Storm Richards is in Hollywood, filming a TV show. Just what the show is, I really can’t say. Hey, this ain’t my story, it’s just my rant. Anyway, Sue gets called into the office of the gentleman who owns the company and who is it? Why, it’s Namor! Didn’t see that coming. (Okay, I lied. Do you people NOT see the cover.) Covers aside, Namor bought the company way back in Fantastic Four #9 and just plain forgot. Hey, when you are the complete lord and master of the Underwater worlds, little things like that could totally slip your mind. Running a whole Kingdom, That’s important. Running a film company, not so much. So sayeth, Namor!

So Namor has got problems. (Who doesn’t?) But Namor’s problem is legit huge. Turns out back in his home of Atlantis his people start thinking of him as a God. And by God, I mean like, “Touch me, Namor, so that I can be healed!” Namor doesn’t totally feel comfortable with all that and is all like “Peace out, y’all.” Yup. It happened just like that. Okay, maybe it didn’t. But admit it, you’d think that was pretty cool if Namor did say that. Ahem. So Namor fled to the sanest place he knew, Hollywood. Really, dude?

Comics Rant: Batman #455

Batman #455
Written By Alan Grant
Pencils By Norm Breyfogle
Inks By Steve Mitchell
Colors By Adrienne Roy

To be honest, there’s nothing that I love to do more than to read a really good comic book. My enjoyment goes up a million percent when it involves Batman. Hey, when it’s that guy or Spidey, I’m a sucker for them both. So when I was hooking up a heater (it’s getting cold here on the east coast) a trade from my half assed shelf crash landed on my head. I looked up and it was the very first Robin trade that DC put out back in 1991. Not the crappy Jason Todd Robin, but the super spiky haired Tim Drake Robin. I decided to break out this trade and review each issue in. And not because I don’t feel like ranting on anything new. Ahem. So with Matt out with the dreaded Ebola Jr. Virus, it’s up to me to give you a new rant.

So let me just start out saying that I have a soft spot for Tim Drake. Maybe it was the way most of the Bat writers handled him at the time, but he really clicked and captured the imagination of a majority of comic fans at the time. So a little bit of info on old Tim.

Comics Rant: Fantastic Four #194

Fantastic Four #194
Plot By Len Wein & Keith Pollard
Written By Bill Mantlo
Pencils By Keith Pollard
Inks By Dave Hunt
Colors By George Roussos

Now, say it ain’t so. Tash Moore here and I must say that I’m having a blast reading these old issues of Fantastic Four. Great plotting and art is what comics are all about. The FF are truly Marvel’s First Family, but hey, just like every family, there’re problems that will happen. So if you’ve been keeping up with these rants you know that the Fantastic Four have pretty much broken up because Reed Richards lost his stretching powers. So Reed has broken up the team and everyone has gone their own ways. Johnny Storm is racing cars and this rant has The Thing working for NASA.

Reboots and Relaunches November 2014

Reboots and Relaunches for this month, right now!

Back here for the attack. Tash Moore here with you on this fine Election day here in the good ol’ US of A. I went out and voted, did you? Since no one is running for President this time around I bet you didn’t. You lazy bum. But it doesn’t matter because Ronald Regan is still the man in charge. Even if he’s a hologram. If Frank Miller is to be believed. But hey, that dude hasn’t written anything decent since Batman: Year One.  But let’s leave that on the back burner. This is my little area of the Internet where I can cast my opinions on the Comic Book topics of the day. It’s Bi-Monthly ( Which means it swings that way, if you know what I mean. Cause I sure don’t.) newz you can use. And by use I mean the total opposite of that. Yup.

Fantastic Fuck Up.

By now I’m sure that you’ve heard that FOX Studious has a new Fantastic Four film in the works for 2015. It’ll pretty much be a reboot of the film franchise. This will hopefully erase the drizzling shits “Acting” job of Jessica Alba and Chris “I’m Captain America, now damnit” Evans. But this is all good and well to the folks over at Fox. It’s ruffles the feathers of one Isaac Perlmutter ( What an awful name.)  Turns out he’s pretty pissed at Fox for not turning over the films right to the FF when they had the chance, so that keeps Perlmutter and Disney from raking in the cash from said film. Word around the Marvel’s office is that he doesn’t want to see or hear anything Fantastic Four. Also the book will be cancelled by Marvel at Perlmutter’s request. I’m not sure this is totally true. But the books sales have been pretty shitty since about the time Mark Millar left. Word is Perlmutter wanted to cancel the X-Men books too, since Fox owns those films rights, too. But that would be too costly. From what I’ve seen and read, this dude is all about the bottom line. But this guy seems petty. I’m not to happy seeing Marvel lose it’s “First Family” but they just haven’t had a sales spark in some time. But it’s awful to have it go the way of the Buffalo. But hey, the upside could be that all this controversy could lead to Fantastic Four coming back in some form soon. Shit, it’s not like Marvel hasn’t done that before. Hell, they do it once a month for some books. *Cough,Moon Knight,Cough*
