Comics Rant: Action Comics #584

Action Comics #584
Written & Penciled By John Byrne
Inked By Dick Gioradano
Colors By Tom Ziuko

This was the point where Action Comics pretty much became the Superman team up book. John Byrne was also writing and penciling his title along with the new Superman title. Dude must have been on coke. That’s clearly the only way he could get two monthly comics done. Word is this is how Jack Kirby got his work done. Or he was a robot of some kind. That robot is probably still around to this day in secret. While still not getting his original pages back from Marvel. Giving the pages to inkers, cuz you know, nothing says like “We Care!” like giving the art to the guy who traced over it. Ah, I kid. Inkers are people, too. I think.

Wait, what the hell was I talking about? Only I could turn a rant about John Byrne’s Superman into a rant about Jack Kirby.

More New X-Men goodness, But this time Grant Morrison is matched up with Ethan Van Sciver to pencil this book. I guess Frank Q, couldn’t really keep up with the demands of a monthly comic book. So he told Marvel he could then took the money and ran. You know, only showing up to collect a paycheck from Mike Marts for giving a cover. What a lazy bum. But Van Sciver does a good job with the art here and Beast looks more like a big blue kitty kat and the women don’t look like cross dressers. Our tale starts off with a new mutant joining Xavier’s school. He’s the Beak. Yup, you guessed it, he looks like a bird. Works for me.

Comics Rant: Superman #1

Superman #1
Written & Penciled by John Byrne
Inks By Terry Austin
Colors By Tom Ziuko

There was a time where Superman was the number one title in the industry. It’s was the 1980’s and it was his 50th birthday. Normally, 50 years old is over the hill and then you get put in one of those crooked homes seen on 60 mins. (Simpson!) But it’s a time where a reboot really meant something. Plus that reboot was written and drawn by John Freaking Byrne! This was a big deal because back in the day John Byrne was pretty much money in the bank and despite what Chris Claremont will tell you, That Uncanny X-Men team was clearly held together by Byrne.

So Byrne is taking over the monthly title and stealing, I mean bringing X-Men/ Fantastic Four partner Terry Austin with him. Take your lazy ass back and read Byrne’s Man of Steel Mini Series cuz I ain’t doing it here. I’m lazy, too! So what. Well, Lex Luthor here is the Million Dollar Man, you know, being rich and doing what he damn well

Comics Rant: New X-Men Annual 2001

"Sideways you say?"

New X-Men Annual 2001
Written By Grant Morrison
Penciled By Leinil F. Yu.
Inks By Gerry Alanguilan

Hey, for once they have a Marvel Annual that was needed to expand the story and it wasn’t even the 1980’s. Go figure. Tash Moore and like I said in my past New X-Men rants, Grant Morrison was on fire for his first few issue’s of this title. Then we all know what happens after that. The writing starts getting all Chris Claremont types of shitty. You know it’s true, so deal with it. Ahem. The X-Men go to China to find more mutants. Mutants being to short supply because you know, Cassandra Nova fucking killed sixteen million of them! Shit, like that will make you want to seek out your own kind. Stat!

The X-Men team up with Domino who I always didn’t really care for at all. I blame the 1990’s for giving way too much apathy. It’s all the damn MTV. Meh.

Batman! Dead, you say? Didn’t see that coming. Unless, you know, you ended up reading one of the “News” sites. You know, site that spoil book and tells you the 100k or under is healthy sales for a comic book. Everything is fine. No need to reach out to new readers. Ahem. Batman #41 is the beginning of a bold new direction for Batman. Well, you know, until we get another “soft reboot” and everything goes back to normal. It’ll happen. But until then we get the aftermath of The Joker killing Batman from the last issue. Oh, and everyone in Gotham knows that Batman is dead and the people who run “Powers Indutries” thinks that Gotham still needs a hero and start recruiting cops to attempt to take over the mantle of the Batman.

So Jim Gordon gets talked into

Comics Rant: Walking Dead #141

Written by: Robert Kirkman
Art by: Charlie Adlard

Last issue we learned that Negan's cell door was open and he was free to walk out and do whatever he wanted all while Rick was making his way back from The Hilltop. Speaking of which, as Rick pulls in, Dwight chooses an interesting way to make a meeting with Rick, an arrow into a tree as they walk by. Dwight basically tells Rick that he no longer wants to be the leader of The Saviors and wants out. Unfortunately there's nothing Rick can do, the people chose Dwight, the people have to vote him out. There needs to be an election.

After catching up with Andrea, Rick

Special Edition New York 2015 Day 2

My day today started at 5 am. There wasn't any way I was going to miss out on the NYCC tickets. I arrive at Pier 94 at 7am and the 3 hour wait begins. The stars must have aligned and I met some really cool people that made the wait seem much shorter. The NYCC are finally mine at about 10:30 and while in line Bendis walks up to me after making eye contact and catching a thumbs up, and actually shakes my hand. So far, the morning is great.

Special Edition: New York 2015 Day 1

The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and the line is about three and a half blocks long. It's no surprise that everyone is there for NYCC tickets. Within 5 minutes of opening the doors, the line for NYCC tickets hits the far back side of Pier 94. Needless to say, I was not entertaining this line. Especially because at10:15 the first panel of the weekend was the big Marvel, What's Next panel! Staring Brian Michael Bendis, Charles Soule and Marguerite Bennett. They spoke about Marguerite's A-Force, Soule's future books and the big drop of the panel was the return of The Invincible Iron Man to be written by Bendis himself. Big changes are coming to the Shell Head like new characters, new villains, and the reveal of who his birth parents are!

Comics Rant: New X-Men #116

New X-Men #116
Written By Grant Morrison
Pencils By  Frank Quitely
Inks By Mark Morales & Dan Green
Colors By Hi Fi Designs

Tash Moore and I’ll admit I’m back to the Morrison/Quitely New X-Men and damn does it get good. So we come back from the last issue (which if you didn’t read my last rant, which means there’s something wrong with you. So go back and read it.) with the Mutant nation of Genosha being blown up by the Sentinels and Cassandra Nova. Bummer. Sixteen millions Mutants gone. Kind of wonder just where the hell the Avengers were in all this? Probably in Space or something fighting Kang! So Jean And Beast head over to Genosha to lend a hand with the clean up and come across Emma Frost. Who only survived being blown up by a second mutation that causes Emma’s skin to turn into stone cold diamonds. Good for her.

Comics Rant: Captain America #7

Captain America #7
Written By Mark Waid
Pencils By Dale Eaglesham & Andy Kubert
Inks By Andy Smith and Jesse Delperdang
Colors By Joe Rosas

Captain America as the talk of the town comes to a bittersweet end, here gang. Tash Moore and I’m pulling myself from getting stuck in a New Jersey rain storm to bring you this rant for Cap. It’s the final throw down with the Super Skrull that’s been making Cap an icon just so he can slander Captain America and turn the American people against him. Sounds just like that FOX news does to President Obama. Yup.

So people are going apeshit on  each other cause from last issue, Fake Skrull Cap told the world at large that if you know someone who doesn’t seem quite normal, chances are, they are a Skrull and you need to kill those motherfuckers on sight. Clearly something the real Captain America would never do. But hey, screw logic here. I bet Dick Cheney is thinking “Where the fuck where these unquestioning assholes when the press was asking questions circa 2006?” USA dated politics FTW!
