Comics Rant: Daredevil #4

Daredevil #4
Written by Charles Soule
Drawn by Ron Garney & Goran Sudzuka
Colored by Matt Milla

With all the praise the Netflix show has been getting it's safe to say that Marvel wanted that darker tone to be added to the comics. You know, like those people who like the show will transition to the comic book. Good fucking luck with that. That almost never happens but hey you can't blame them for trying. So Daredevil is working with Steve Rodgers, the former Captain America to stop a group of morons who make and sell bombs on the black market from blowing up their lab in an occupied building in Brooklyn. All while paying a sky high price for rent no doubt. I mean it is Brooklyn.

To make matters worse, Tenfingers is still

Comics Rant: Doctor Strange #5

Dr. Strange #5
Written by Jason Aaron
Drawn and Colored by Chris Bachalo
Inked by Tim Townsend, Al Vey, Mark Irwin, John Livesay, Victor Olzazaba and Jamie Mendoza

A world without magic? Say it ain't so, and I'm not talking about the Weezer song, gang. In this issue, Jason Aaron continues his freaking off beat tale (Isn't that what he does best?) of a group of bad guys who want to do away with magic. We found out in this story that every time the good Doctor uses magic there is a price to pay. Hence the title of the story "Pound of Flesh." Every damn time Doctor Strange uses what's called Black Atlantean Magic he starts to bleed from the eyes.

Movie Review: Hail, Caesar!

Hail, Caesar!
directed by Ethan Coen and Joel Coen
starring: Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Alden Ehrenreich, Channing Tatum, Scarlett Johansson, Ralph Fiennes, and more.

Woah, boy. So here it is. My movie review for "Hail, Caesar!"

I was excited to see this latest Coen brothers film, as I tend to like the movies they make. This particular movie takes place in Hollywood in the 1950s, when the threat of communism was spreading. I really enjoyed how the movie's focus was on a single movie studio trying to make a movie and the man in charge of looking after the actors. There are really nice moments between the various characters that make this movie so charming. It is a little strange to see that the movie being produced in this movie is called, "Hail, Caesar!" too and how you start watching a movie within a movie like some out of body experience. It was a little surreal.

Comics Rant: Extraordinary X-Men #7

Extraordinary X-Men #7
Written by Jeff Lemire
Drawn by Victor Ibanez
Colored by Jay David Ramos

Hey, how about that second season of Daredevil on Netflix? Great stuff, right? I mean it's so good that's why I haven't been able to get any rants out about comics. But that's all going to change. Well, until the NFL comes back, then count my money good as sent to the tv networks that carry it. Ahem, so I read this issue of X-Men by Jeff Lemire. Got to give the guy credit, he can work the whole team dynamic. Think Mark Millar on The Authority. Pretty much when the guy still gave a damn. Not like now.

Comics Rant: Amazing Spider-Man #8

Amazing Spider-Man #8
Written by Dan Slott
Drawn by Matteo Buffagni
Colored by Marte Gracia

Another Spider-Man epic that's been boiling over for two whole issues. Only two issues instead of the normal six or seven they try to squeeze a story out of so they can sell that as a trade. I'm surprised as all get out. But at the very least, Dan Slott does a commendable job of packing his stories with intrigue and action along with the pace being so fluid. You know, kinda of like how a Marvel comic used to be. Ahem.

So Spidey is still in China, which multiple characters just won't or can't seem to let us forget, and Mr. Negative is trying to kill the man who's now doing business with Peter Parker and bring in a green technology car to China and let's face it, they sure could fucking use it. Am I right? (Donald Trump voice, FTW.)

Comics Rant: Amazing Spider-Man #7

Amazing Spider-Man #7
Written by Dan Slott

Spider-Man under the power of Mr. Negative. And no, Mr. Negative isn't just a guy who'll hold a crappy disposition against your favorite albums or craps on the kind of beer you like, the evil! Well, unless he's his normal non-evil self of Martin Li. Think Two Face with different physical forms. Yeah? Good. So Mr. Negative wants Peter Parker to poison with his patented (pending) drug that makes you a bad guy, Nightshade, a Japanese business man named Quinghao. You see, it's part of Mr. Negative's plan to make this guy evil and under his thumb.

Comics Rant: Swamp Thing #2

Swamp Thing #2
Written by Len Wein
 Drawn by Kelley Jones
Colored by Michelle Madsen

Horror comics have been a big deal since the Silver Age. With books like House of Mystery and all those awesome EC tales, most popularly Tales from the Crypt and so on, it's safe to put myself up there as a fan. So if it's a book or a zombie filled film like Dawn of the Dead, it's a favorite genre for me. So is comics so when you get the two added with a classic vibe, it's magic. That's where we are with today's rant: Swamp Thing #2.

Comics Rant: Batman #49

Batman #49
Written by Scott Snyder & James Tynion IV
Drawn by Yanick Paquette
Colored by Nathan Fairbairn

........ So what the fuck just happened? I got my piles of comics and was like "Hey, look, Batman. That's always a fun read." And shit was like, "Not today, pal". So I started reading this and it starts with Bruce Wayne remembering his life as Batman and forces Alfred to take him to the Batcave. Just why do you ask? Why, because Mr. Bloom has handed the Jim Gordon Batman his shiny metal ass and is ripping up Gotham City.

But in a scene that looks like Scott Snyder sent the script to Grant Morrison then back to himself and to the editor, Alfred has a machine in the cave that has Batman copy memories that can cause, and I'm not making this up here folks, "Brain Death" and the memories of Batman can go on in a new Bruce Wayne. Say what the fuck now? Reading this fucking issue gave me the Brain Death.
