Comics Rant: Silver Surfer #6

Silver Surfer #6
Story by Dan Slott & Michael Allred
Drawn by Michael Allred
Colored by Laura Allred

In what would have been the 200th issue of the Silver Surfer (if we didn't get all these damn reboots) we get not only a double sized issue, but the Amazing Spider-Man guest starring here, as well. That never gets old, right? Well, no, because Dan Slott is writing it and that's totally fine with me. Last issue, Surfer took Dawn to see her mother who abandoned her and her family. Huh. Who knew the power cosmic could be used as a substitute for Google.

Dawn's mom turns out to be a painter and didn't really want to be a mom, so she bolted first chance she could get. Spider-Man plays a hand here. He's also in San Fransisco, where Dawn's mom has taken residence. There are, also, some creatures that have come from the bottom of the ocean that can take the form of anything that you fear the most. They were awoken when Surfer used his life force as well as the Power Cosmic to repel the attack of his fellow

Comics Rant: Nightwing #4

Nightwing #4
Written by Tim Seeley
Drawn by Javier Fernandez
Colored by Chris Sotomayor

Man, what's up with all these damn team ups. It's like it's assailant editors month at Marvel and DC. Ahem. Nightwing and Raptor finally decided that it's time to make their move against the newly reformed Court of Owls. Not bad, it only took four issues to get around to this going down. If this was a Bendis book, you just know that motherfucker would have drawn it out to issue sixty.

The breaking point comes when they both decided it time to free the hobo families that they brought to the Court for sacrifice back in the second issue. They free the folks and then turn to hold off the head of the Court of Owls. He's taken the same DNA altering drugs that Nightwing and Raptor found the Kobra operatives using from issue #1.

Comics Rant: All Star Batman #2

All Star Batman #2
Written by Scott Snyder
Pencils by John Romita Jr. & Declan Shalvey
Inks by Declan Shalvey & Danny Miki
Colors by Dean White & Jordie Bellaire

What a jumbled up fucking mess. Two stories interwoven here. One with Batman trying to get Two Face to some antidote that he's got that can cure him, (don't ask) and one with the new Robin, Duke. I'll be honest, I could care less about this kid. Think of him as 1980's Jason Todd. Nobody cares, no matter how hard they try. He's like Roman Reigns. Try as they might, but fans don't care. They want Robin in some damn pixie boots

Batman has Two Face handcuffed to

Comics Rant: Amazing Spider-Man #17

Amazing Spider-Man #17
Written by Dan Slott
Penciled by R.B. Silva
Inked by Adriano Di Benedetto
Colored by Marte Gracia

For those of you who are taking the train to New York Comic Con as I type this, I can honestly say, I don't envy you. After six years of going to that thing I'm more than happy to stay home and wear loose fitting clothing. Hell, that's the American Dream, but if you are there, stay safe, gang. Hey, look, R.B. Silva is drawing this issue of Amazing Spider-Man. About time, too. When he was drawing the backups in Action Comics years ago, I was openly asking when Marvel would snap this guy up.

Comics Rant: Doctor Strange #10

Doctor Strange #10
Written by Jason Aaron
Penciled by Chris Bachalo
Inked by Tim Townsend, John Livesay, Victor Olazaba, Al Vey, Jaime Mendoza & Wayne Faucher
Colored by Chris Bachalo & Rain Beredo

Damn, once I stop buying this book I can stop with typing so many damn inkers names. I've said it once and man, I'll say it again. That's a lot of fucking inkers. This issue of Doctor Strange ends with the "Last Days of Magic" story, soon to be collected into a trade paperback and will be over priced than buying the damn single issues. Ahem.

Like most of my favorite funny books, just as the leader of the Empirikul's leader, the Imperator, is about to end all magic on earth by, what else,

Comics Rant: Black Widow #6

Black Widow #6
Story by Mark Waid & Chris Samnee
Drawn by Chris Samnee
Colored by Matthew Wilson

Waid and Samnee continue what must be a highwater mark for modern comics, rivaled by only Amazing Spider-Man. Black Widow is noir along with classic storytelling sensibility, oh and look at that, a letter page, shit, you don't see that anymore. Now it's all just ads for other comics you won't buy. I'm looking at you, DC.

This time, Black Widow is injured
